Brilliance Auto is suing Dongfeng and Honda in the US over sensor-related patents

(August 31), Auto Brilliance LLC (hereinafter referred to as "Brilliance Automobile") filed a lawsuit in the United States Court for the Eastern District of Texas against Japanese automakers Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Nissan") and Honda Motor Co. (hereinafter referred to as "Honda"). The complaint alleges that Nissan and Honda infringed patents related to sensor calibration and adjustment claimed by Brilliance.

According to foreign media on August 31 news, Brilliance Automobile accused automakers Nissan and Honda in the U.S. Eastern District Court of Texas on Wednesday of infringing its patents for sensor technology based on safety systems, including blind spot detection, automatic emergency braking and steering, adaptive cruise control and lane departure assistance.

Brilliance's complaint alleges that Honda and Nissan manufactured, used, offered for sale, sold, or imported in the United States products containing 7,337,650 U.S. invention patents without Brilliance's permission or otherwise authorization. The Honda products involved include HR-V, CR-V, Passport, Pilot, Civic, Accord, Insight, Odyssey, Ridgeline and other models equipped with Honda safety sensing systems and driver assistance technology. Nissan products involved in the case include Pathfinder, Rogue, Rogue Sport, Leaf, Altima, Versa, Sentra, Maxima, Kicks, Murano, Armada, Titan, A variety of vehicles such as Frontier and Ariya are equipped with safety and driver assistance technologies, including but not limited to the Nissan ProPILOT system and Nissan safety Shield 360 system, as well as other safety and driver assistance features. Brilliance Auto requires the defendant to cease the continued infringement of the patent in this case, and compensate Brilliance Auto a reasonable amount of royalties and other costs related to this action.

The U.S. patent 7,337,650 in question relates to automotive sensors, a vehicle sensor system consisting of video, radar, ultrasonic or laser sensors that, when installed, allow the driver of the vehicle to obtain 360-degree vision of its surroundings, as well as awareness of environmental conditions or scene awareness.
