How to apply for a patent? What documents should be submitted?

After an applicant has determined that his invention or creation needs to be patented, he must apply to the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) in writing or in electronic form. The application for patent can be made directly to the State Intellectual Property Office or the patent representative offices of the State Intellectual Property Office located in various places, or a patent agent can be commissioned to handle the patent application on behalf of the applicant.
An application for a patent for invention or utility model shall be submitted with a request, a specification and its abstract and claims.
An application for a design patent shall be filed with a request letter, pictures or photographs of the design and a brief description of the design.
An application for a national defense patent shall be submitted to the National Defense Patent Office with a request letter, a specification, an abstract thereof and the claims.
Any unit or individual who applies for a patent in a foreign country for an invention or utility model made in China shall submit the application
