From January to November 2023, the number of utility model patents granted in China decreased by 24.72% year-on-year, and the total number of patents granted decreased by 15.06% year-on-year

Recently, the State Intellectual Property Office released the main statistical data of intellectual property from January to November 2023. Compared with January-November 2022, the number of invention patents granted increased by 15.46% year-on-year, utility models decreased by 24.71% year-on-year, and designs decreased by 11.06% year-on-year.

I. Patents
From January to November 2023, the number of invention patents granted in China was 849,000, the number of utility model patents granted was 1.925 million, and the number of design patents granted was 585,000.
As of the end of November 2023, the number of effective invention patents in China was 4.934 million. Among them, the valid number of domestic invention patents (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) was 3.958 million. The number of effective utility model patents was 12.05 million. The number of effective design patents was 3.20 million.
From January to November 2023, our bureau accepted 65,800 PCT international patent applications. Of these, 61,200 were submitted by domestic applicants.
From January to November 2023, Chinese applicants submitted a total of 1,666 international design applications1, and a total of 1,636 international design applications2 have been publicly designated as China.
Ii. Trademarks
From January to November 2023, the number of trademark applications in China was 6.534 million; 3.948 million trademarks were registered. As of November 2023, 45.788 million trademarks had been effectively registered.
From January to November 2023, our Bureau received 5,644 applications for the international registration of Madrid trademarks from Chinese applicants.
Geographical indications, integrated circuit layout design
From January to November 2023, China approved the protection of 10 geographical indication products, approved the registration of 182 geographical indications as collective trademarks and certification trademarks, and approved the use of special geographical indication market entities 5,662. As of November 2023, a total of 2,505 geographical indication products have been approved, 7,258 geographical indications have been approved as collective trademarks or certification trademarks, and 26,625 market entities have been approved to use special geographical indication indications.
From January to November 2023, China registered 11,066 applications for layout design of integrated circuits; 10,324 pieces were issued.
