World Intellectual Property Organization Global Awards Announced: Chinese Enterprises Lead the Number of Award-winning Companies

On July 11, the second WIPO Global Awards ceremony was held in Geneva, Switzerland. Among the seven award-winning companies from all over the world, two Chinese companies are included.

On July 11, the second WIPO Global Awards ceremony was held in Geneva, Switzerland. Deng Hongsen, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization, presented awards to representatives of the seven winning companies in recognition of their use of intellectual property to not only achieve commercial success, but also to have a positive impact on domestic and foreign economic, social and cultural progress through the use of intellectual property.
Among the seven award-winning companies from all over the world, two Chinese companies are included. They are Shanghai Xijing Technology Company, which develops multi-scenario intelligent and green solutions for the bulk logistics field, and Xi'an Zhikejue Network Technology Company, which provides comprehensive digital solutions for cinemas and cultural institutions. The other five companies are from France, Kenya, Mexico, Singapore and Slovenia.
Tang Hongsen said at the award ceremony that for small and medium-sized enterprises, intellectual property rights are both a shield and a sword: not only helping to protect their ideas, but also a tool for them to enter new markets and succeed. Building a more inclusive IP ecosystem and bringing IP closer to SMEs is key to WIPO’s strategy. We see these awards as an opportunity to celebrate, recognize and reward dynamic SMEs who are using innovation to change the world.
Launched in 2022, the WIPO Global Award is an award mainly open to small and medium-sized enterprises, aiming to recognize enterprises and individuals around the world that have had a positive impact on domestic and foreign economic, social and cultural progress through the use of intellectual property. The seven award-winning companies this time will receive exclusive guidance plans and other forms of support and assistance from the World Intellectual Property Organization to promote the transformation and application of intellectual property rights.
In 2023, the World Intellectual Property Organization Secretariat received a total of 548 applications for the Global Prize from 58 countries, half of which were from China. In the Global Award shortlist announced at the end of May, 25 small and medium-sized enterprises included 6 Chinese companies. (People's Daily Online)
