The subject applying for registration of a collective trademark can be a group, association or other organization, generally a collective organization for a certain product or service, such as the China Xinhua Bookstore Association and the Pangezhuang Watermelon Production and Marketing Federation of Daxing District, Beijing. A single enterprise, sole proprietor or group company cannot be an applicant for a collective trademark. Members of collective organizations jointly enjoy the exclusive right to use collective trademarks, and entities with collective organization membership can use collective trademarks in commercial activities.
