Brief report on main intellectual property statistics from January to February 2023

1. Patent

From January to February 2023, the number of authorized invention patents in my country was 86,000, the number of authorized utility model patents was 367,000, and the number of authorized design patents was 117,000.

As of the end of February 2023, the number of valid invention patents in my country was 4.267 million. Among them, there are 3.334 million valid domestic invention patents (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan). The effective number of utility model patents is 11 million. The effective number of design patents is 2.876 million.

From January to February 2023, our office accepted 8,900 PCT international patent applications. Among them, 8,100 were submitted by domestic applicants. In January 2023, Chinese applicants submitted a total of 144 international design applications1. From January to February 2023, a total of 1482 international design applications designated China.

2. Trademark

From January to February 2023, the number of trademark applications in my country was 736,000; the number of trademark registrations was 755,000. As of February 2023, there were 43.263 million valid registered trademarks.

From January to February 2023, our office received 702 applications for Madrid trademark international registration from Chinese applicants.

3. Geographical indications and integrated circuit layout design

From January to February 2023, my country approved the protection of 2 geographical indication products, approved the registration of 33 geographical indications as collective trademarks and certification marks, and approved the use of geographical indications by 878 market entities. As of February 2023, a total of 2,497 geographical indication products have been approved, a total of 7,109 geographical indications have been approved for registration as collective trademarks and certification marks, and 24,362 market entities have been approved to use special signs for geographical indications.
