The 22nd FIFA World Cup is being held in Qatar, attracting global attention. However, a small number of companies and natural persons have maliciously registered trademarks on popular words and symbols such as "World Cup", the names of famous football stars, and the World Cup mascots "LAEEB" and "Raib" for the purpose of seeking improper benefits, infringing on social and public interests. The State Intellectual Property Office attaches great importance to the protection of intellectual property rights for the Qatar World Cup and resolutely cracks down on malicious preemptive registration. However, a small number of companies and natural persons have maliciously registered trademarks on popular words and symbols such as "World Cup", the names of famous football stars, and the World Cup mascots "LAEEB" and "Raib" for the purpose of seeking improper benefits, infringing on social and public interests.
The State Intellectual Property Office attaches great importance to the protection of intellectual property rights for the Qatar World Cup and resolutely cracks down on malicious registration. In accordance with Article 10, Paragraph 1, Item (7) and other provisions of the Trademark Law , the State Intellectual Property Office has issued a ban on No. 66999855 "World Cup" and No. 63803887 Twenty-six trademark registration applications including "LAEEB" were rejected; in accordance with the provisions of Article 44, paragraph 1, of the Trademark Law, the registered trademark No. 63767652 "LAEEBS" was declared invalid ex officio.
The State Intellectual Property Office will continue to maintain a high-pressure posture, continue to carry out in-depth special operations to crack down on malicious trademark registrations, strengthen the protection of World Cup hot words and logos including the World Cup, World Cup mascots, and famous star names, and seriously deal with violations of integrity in accordance with laws and regulations. The principle of credit, applicants who maliciously register trademarks and seek improper benefits and their entrusted trademark agencies must resolutely maintain a clean and upright trademark registration management order, effectively protect the legitimate rights and interests of market entities, and safeguard public interests.
The public is welcome to supervise and report suspected malicious registration behaviors.
