Final major MyEPO release of 2025

Release Time:

2025-11-05

The European Patent Office (EPO) is pleased to announce a series of enhancements to MyEPO services. This year’s final major release features a redesigned MyEPO homepage, as well as improvements to existing processes and expanded self-management options. Enhancements have been developed and trialled in close collaboration with pilot users from 194 companies.

The latest release contributes to the goal of making the digital patent granting process more efficient, user-friendly and accessible, as set out in the Strategic Plan 2028. A growing number of users will benefit, as over 10 000 patent attorneys and representatives now use MyEPO services for the smart management of their patent business with the EPO.

Improvements for MyEPO users

MyEPO homepage

When entering MyEPO, users are welcomed onto a new homepage that has been shaped by pilot user input gathered during in-depth interviews and testing. The updated design offers rapid and direct access to the patent granting process as well as to other platforms.

It provides a clear overview of pending actions and their status, so users can act swiftly and easily. Additionally, a simple search field enables users to go straight to a specific application. Meanwhile, batch actions can be performed with greater ease than ever before and tools such as Online Filing 2.0, Central Fee Payment and the Legal Interactive Platform are now more prominently displayed.

The homepage will continue to be refined as new insights emerge, in order to maintain a highly user-friendly experience.

New MyEPO homepage

Bibliographic data panel

The bibliographic data for EPC and PCT patent applications are now conveniently displayed in a new dedicated panel, accessible within each patent application or patent view. Editing rights are as usual available to authorised users.

Colour filings

Since 1 October, the EPO accepts filings of colour or greyscale drawings if submitted via any of its electronic filing tools. This feature is available for all European patent applications filed as of 1 October and subsequent electronic filings, but subject to the substantive requirements of the EPC, e.g. when claiming priority. The practice for international phase PCT applications is not affected.

Managing associations in MyEPO

Company administrators can create new associations, update their details and administer members.

Legal practitioners

Since 1 October, legal practitioners can also join or form associations registered with the EPO, either together with professional representatives or with other legal practitioners. Further, legal practitioners can now update their personal information in MyEPO’s Representative area and request their entry on the register of legal practitioners via their MyEPO user profile.

New bulk maintenance options

Company administrators can benefit from two new bulk actions: maintaining company member access and rights (via the company members screen) and maintaining portfolio permissions (via the applications and patents screen).

Stronger 2FA methods now available for EPO accounts

The EPO has further enhanced the security of its online services by enabling new, stronger and more phishing-resistant two-factor authentication (2FA) methods. EPO account owners can now secure their accounts with options such as Windows Hello (face, fingerprint or PIN), other supported biometrics like Face ID and Touch ID, or a physical security key (e.g., YubiKey). Users can set up these new methods either during initial account registration, or at any time thereafter, by navigating to their Account Settings and selecting the Security page.

Contacting Customer Support

Users can reach our Customer Support team by email, our contact form, or our free-of-charge phone line. We've recently extended our phone line hours to 07.00 to 19.00 hrs CET/CEST.

Looking ahead

Simplified authorisation management

As of 1 December 2025, the EPO will offer enhanced MyEPO features to simplify authorisation management and only register general authorisations where these are issued for employees of a party to proceedings.

OLF 2.0 to become standard filing tool as of January 2026

The desktop-based Online Filing (eOLF) software will be discontinued on 31 December 2025. As of January 2026, the web-based Online Filing 2.0 (OLF 2.0) will be the standard tool for filing patent applications online. Other procedural requests may be submitted online using OLF 2.0 or, where possible, MyEPO. If you have questions regarding the use of eOLF with national patent offices, please contact the respective national office directly.

Free seminars for learning about OLF 2.0 will be held in November in English, German and French (see below for dates and registration).
