Patent work in Guangdong Province reaches a new level

In 2013, Guangdong Province's patent work reached a new level, and the province's patent creation, application, protection and service capabilities continued to improve rapidly. In 2013, Guangdong Province accepted 264,265 patent applications, a year-on-year increase of 15.14%, of which 68,990 invention patent applications were accepted, a year-on-year increase of 14.13%. The number of patent authorizations was 170,430, a year-on-year increase of 10.96%, of which 20,084 invention patents were authorized. The number of PCT international patent applications accepted in the province was 11,525, accounting for 55.15% of the total number accepted nationwide, with a year-on-year increase of 25.12%, ranking first in the country for 12 consecutive years.

In 2013, a total of 17,009 companies in Guangdong Province applied for 136,713 patents, accounting for 51.73% of the province’s total patent applications; 15,721 companies were authorized for 92,717 patents, accounting for 54.4% of the province’s total patent applications. In the review of the 15th China Patent Awards, the number of winning projects in Guangdong reached a record high, with a total of 72 awards, including 5 gold awards and 67 excellence awards.
In 2013, the total number of patent dispute cases accepted by the Guangdong Provincial Intellectual Property Office ranked first in the country. A total of 2,292 patent cases of various types were accepted throughout the year, and 1,838 cases were closed. Among them, there were 1,857 patent dispute cases (including mediation of exhibition patent disputes), and 1,403 cases were closed; 435 counterfeit patent cases were investigated and handled, and 435 cases were closed. In addition, Guangdong Province continues to strengthen the construction of China Zhongshan (Lighting) Rapid Intellectual Property Rights Protection Center. China Dongguan (Furniture) Rapid Intellectual Property Rights Protection Center was also approved for establishment in 2013.
