The latest “report card” on Guangdong’s intellectual property work is released. Recently, according to the Guangdong Provincial Administration for Market Regulation (Intellectual Property Office), from January to September 2022, the province’s invention patent authorizations were 88,000, PCT international patent applications were 17,000, and trademark registrations were 896,000, both Remain first in the country. Guangdong focuses on service innovation-driven development and provides support for strategic industrial clusters to obtain independent intellectual property rights. Focusing on 12 strategic industrial clusters such as new generation information technology and biological industry, Guangdong has established a rapid pre-examination channel for patent applications, and the average invention patent authorization cycle has been shortened from 22 months to 2 months. The country's first local standard "Guidelines for the Cultivation and Layout of High-Value Patent Cultivation" was released, and 354 high-value patent cultivation centers were built. Guangdong also implemented an action plan to integrate intellectual property into strategic industrial clusters and was approved to build 28 national-level patent navigation service bases. 66 special patent databases have been built around the development of strategic industrial clusters, providing a total of 150 million pieces of global patent data.

Focusing on promoting high-quality development, Guangdong also continues to accelerate the transfer and transformation of intellectual property achievements. At present, an intellectual property collaborative operation system has been established, and the first batch of 10 strategic industrial clusters and 13 key park intellectual property collaborative operation centers have been built. From January to September 2022, the amount of patent and trademark pledges in the province reached 61.14 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 101.1%; 11 new intellectual property securitization products were issued with an issuance amount of 2.32 billion yuan, ranking first in the country, helping small and medium-sized enterprises to finance.

To build an intellectual property service ecosystem, Guangdong has also continued to deepen intellectual property cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Guangdong and Macao, and has carried out a total of 356 cooperation projects. Promote the joint creation of demonstrations by provinces and municipalities and promote the convergence of intellectual property resources to major platforms in key areas. The province has been approved as the first batch of 8 pilot demonstration cities, 13 counties and districts, and 8 parks to build a national intellectual property power, to help coordinate regional development. The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Intellectual Property Insurance Center has been established. Insurance institutions in the province have provided a total of 2.59 billion yuan in intellectual property risk protection for 1,803 companies, escorting companies to "go global."

It is reported that in the next step, the Guangdong Provincial Administration for Market Regulation (Intellectual Property Office) will make every effort to promote the implementation of the outline for building a powerful country and province in intellectual property and the "14th Five-Year Plan" for intellectual property, deepen the construction of a pilot demonstration province for strong intellectual property, and comprehensively strengthen "Full-chain" protection of intellectual property rights fully serves Guangdong to be at the forefront of the country in high-quality development.
