ZTE, Apple and HTC win the lawsuit! (patent)

A U.S. appeals court on Wednesday affirmed the victory of Apple, HTC and ZTE in claims that the import of their equipment infringed on wireless technology patents. According to a Reuters report today (1st), the U.S. Court of Appeals on Wednesday confirmed that Apple, HTC and ZTE won patents against accusations that the import of their equipment infringed on wireless technology.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit said the three companies’ smartphones, smartwatches, tablets and other LTE-enabled devices did not infringe INVT SPE LLC’s rights in two patents originally owned by Panasonic.
The companies and their lawyers did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
It is reported that INVT is a patent holding company affiliated with the investment fund managed by Fortress Investment Group LLC, a subsidiary of SoftBank Group. INVT filed a lawsuit against Apple, HTC and ZTE with the U.S. International Trade Commission in 2018, accusing their LTE wireless standard-compliant equipment of infringing on its patents and seeking a ban on the import of the allegedly infringing equipment.
The Federal Circuit said the patent was not essential to the LTE standard and that the devices did not infringe simply because they were LTE-capable. The court found the remainder of the appeal moot because INVT's other patents had expired. Apple and ZTE had previously withdrawn from the appeal. (Collected from micronet news)
